Īfter Aerys's death in the Sack of King's Landing, Eddard lifted the siege of Storm's End. Robert's Rebellion started shortly thereafter when Jon refused the king's command.
Aerys then demanded that Jon Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie, execute his wards, Robert Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End, and Brandon's younger brother Eddard Stark, now Lord of Winterfell. The king had the fathers and sons all executed, with only Ethan spared. The fathers of Brandon and his companions were called to King's Landing to answer for the crimes of their sons. When Brandon entered the Red Keep and demanded that Rhaegar come out and die, King Aerys II Targaryen had Brandon's party arrested for threatening the life of the crown prince. When Brandon Stark learned of his sister Lyanna's abduction at the hands of Rhaegar Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone, he took off for King's Landing with Jeffory Mallister, Kyle Royce, Elbert Arryn, and his squire, Ethan.
